rock out to jessi jae joplin & the ruckus’ ep ‘the thrill’

November 15, 2013

Jessi Jae Joplin is the front woman for rock band, The Ruckus, an electro-rock band. At just 23 years of age, Jesse seems to have already accomplished a lot. A model. Business woman. A fashion journo and of course, an awesome punk rocker… the future looks dazzling.
Jessi Jae Joplin & The Ruckus have recently released their debut EP, The Thrill. The Thrill is a short and sharp EP, coming in at only three tracks, but it’s more than enough to paint a vivid picture of what is to come from Jessi and her crew. The Thrill has a significantly rocky perimeter but lovers of the pop genre will not feel out of their depth. Jessi’s vocals are not dense, but rather harmonious and youthful.

Title track “The Thrill” is a perky little number. This track is about chasing something you want and ultimately getting it. In the video, Jessi lands her man in the back of a bright blue Volkswagen minivan, wearing a pink tutu.

The electronic guitar led “Deal With You” is considerably grittier and if you loved her first single “Fist Or Bullets”, then you’ll love this too. The ‘thrilling’ guitar riffs (pun totally intended) are by far the standout element of the track.

There is something rather familiar about Jessi Jae. She is like a cool hybrid of Kiely Williams’ partially angelic, Disney like quality. Kelis’ eccentric fashion sense and the gutsy sass of Cyndi Lauper. I like the EP. It’s not completely flawless (very few projects are) but it’s a well put together mini-bite of what’s to come from the young Californian who is well on her way to becoming a leader of the pop rock scene. No doubt Jessi Jae Joplin & The Ruckus will have an album out sometime in the near future and we’ll all be able to hear a more a lot more to form a more explicit opinion. Right now as it stands, my curiosity has been piqued. I dig Jessi Jae Joplin and The Ruckus. So far so good.

The Thrill is available on iTunes as we speak. Head on over and check it out HERE.
