ap fashion: do i look smarter? specs to add to any outfit!

November 11, 2013

Growing up, when my eye doctor shared with me that I didn’t have 20/20 vision I was devastated… I automatically assumed that I would be called four eyes after he handed me a pair of wire like framed round glasses. EW!
After I gained my own sense of personal style and my own money I upgraded to a more “sophisticated” pair of reading glasses and realize now that being “nerdy” or looking smart, is almost like an accessory. For some of us, glasses help us to get through the day (let’s face it, I am too much of a punk to put in contacts) but the fashion world has added a twist. For all of those teased in school, no worries, we were just ahead of the game.

Cazal eyewear was very popular amongst hip hop artists in the 80’s and 90’s – glasses without prescriptions were cool. So why not rock a pair of specs just for the hell of it?

Sometimes I throw on (non prescribed) glasses to make up for my lack of eye make up before heading to classes – they add accent to what can be a boring or thoughtless outfit – wear jeans, a cut up tee, sweatshirt and top everything off with a pair of funky frames, or… throw on a pair of pointed toe heels, “leather” overalls and a white tee, blazer and a simple clear frame. Go big or small – try on different frames to see what best fits your face. I love the dark almost tortoise like frames, as well as clear frames—they work perfectly with most outfits.

Go big and order a classic Cazal pair of glasses, but if you just want to add eye wear every once in a while to be quirky, pick up a pair at a vintage shop or take a stroll down St. Mark’s Place (for the NYC peeps).

How many of ya’ll wear glasses just for the hell of it?
