red bull music academy features le1f, mykki blanco and venus x at glasslands

May 8, 2013

Last night Red Bull Music Academy packed Glasslands Gallery in Williamsburg with event-goers, videographers and photogs as an eclectic mix of music artists took the stage.

The crowd energized by Red Bull cocktails and loud music, the atmosphere of the warehouse turned performance venue filled with the pops and base-bumps of  hybrid electronic/hip-hop as LEIF began his set. In a black batman cape, the MC lunged, duckwalked and twerked through each song of rapid rapping, closing with the internet-viral club banger, “Wut.” Also notable, a charismatic performance by Mykki Blanco. Rocking a black bra, leather high-wasted shorts and a bob wig, the rapper weaved between verses spit acapella and theatrical renditions of his most popular tracks, such as “Haze.Boogie.Life” and “Wavvy.” To close the night, an eclectic DJ set by the school girl skirt-wearing, motocross jacket-clad DJ Venus X, of the GHE20 G0TH1K parties. Notorious for her unique DJing style, her set journeyed through music genres, traveling from Baltimore club music to dancehall to reggaeton, ending with guitar-tickled Bachata.
