tattoo of the week: spread love the rainbow way

November 3, 2010

We love the fact that this week’s tattoo of the week feature is keen on the rainbow, how we love colors over here, if you couldn’t tell by the site. This week our feature is Ms. 21-year-old, Isake Smith, a Brooklyn native who is currently studying abroad in Granada. She has four tattoos with plans to get more after her experience studying over seas. Our fav is her quote in cursive that says, “No expectations, no regrets,” with a nautical star and 6 stars, one for each color of the rainbow. Dope, Isake. Thanks for your submission. And send your photos to us at to be featured as our tattoo of the week!

Tattoo of the week: Spread love the Rainbow Way
Feature Isake Smith

Who are you?
My name is Isake Khadija Smith. Pronounced e-SO-kay

I am 21 years old

I am from Brooklyn, NY. I go to school in Appleton, WI. I am currently doing a term abroad in Granada, Spain

Number of tattoos

4. One of my name in Chinese (translation, “a precious gift”), one of a treble clef, one of cherry blossoms, and one of my favorite quote, “No expectations, no regrets.” with a nautical star and 6 stars, one for each color of the rainbow.

Favorite one

Cherry Blossoms

When and where did you get it?

I got this tat in May of 2009

What does it mean to you?

Cherry blossoms are the first flowers of spring. They mean new beginnings, fresh starts, and trail blazing, all in amazing soft beauty.

How old were you when you got your first tattoo?

I got my first tat (the chinese characters) the day after my 18th birthday

What is the biggest misconception people have about you because of your tattoos?

Most of my tattoos can’t be seen on a daily basis. But, when people see them they assume that I only have one, and that it must have hurt, and that it was a one time thing.

Why should we feature your tattoo?
This tat is simple and elegant, something to stop and examine (which people tend to do).

Do you have a particular tattoo artist you go to?

No. I am looking to find a permanent artist for a larger piece. But right now I go to people that my friends have suggested. I usually have my own design, but I did have one artist free hand a piece (the cherry blossoms).

Have you ever received a tattoo under the influence of drugs or alcohol?

Nope. Although, for the cherry blossoms, I had been awake for 48 hours studying for finals. I fell asleep for most of it.

Do you regret any tattoos you have?
No, I thought long and hard about every single one of them.

Are you a tattoo addict?

Maybe. I have 2 more pieces planned. One to represent my time here in Granada (a pomegranate with a butterfly, and the word for pomegranate in Arabic underneath. Granada means pomegranate), and one to represent the loss of my best friend and my 2 grandmothers (falling cherry blossoms and a sleeping faerie).
