tattoo of the week: feature, the deacon
About a month ago, we asked people to submit photos of their tattoos for us to feature once a week on afropunk.com. Many brave submissions came forward for their chance to have some face time on the site, thus reminding us that tattoo ink is such a nice touch to brown skin. With the collected submissions, each week we will feature the best and/or most interesting tattoo that we think you may like to see with a little information about the person featured. And it’s not too late to send in your information. Just answer the questions below and send us pictures of your tattoos to afropunkcommunity@gmail.com.

My full tribal sleeve on my left arm and the elephant on the back of my neck.
When and where did you get it?
I got the sleeve form Joe at Third Eye Tattoo in Brooklyn. And Andrea (was in the East Village, but now in Texas) inked “Baba,” my elephant.
What does it mean to you?
The sleeve is my spiritual warrior and Baba is my spiritual guide.
How old were you when you got your first tattoo?
I think 22.
Why should we feature your tattoo?
The sleeve is sexy as hell. It extends from my shoulder to my fingers.
Do you have a particular tattoo artist you go to?
Joe at Third Eye is my man right now.
Have you ever received a tattoo under the influence of drugs or alcohol?
No, but a lot of ibuprofen.
Do you regret any tattoos you have?
No, but I’m planning to cover up the first two I got. They were cool back then, but now it’s time to take them further.
Are you a tattoo addict?
Lover… always a lover.
