tattoo of the week: alex scott

July 21, 2010
This week’s tattoo feature is of a chick we met while on the Afro-punk 2009 National Tour in San Francisco. Our feature, Alex Scott, is a 25-year-old lifeguard who jams out in her spare time. She currently has eight tattoos with plans to get more in the future. She got her latest ink of the words “readymade” after seeing her ex-boyfriend with another girl. Yep, tattoos can actually fill the void of a loved lost. Check! And don’t forget, if you would like your tattoo featured as Afro-punk’s tattoo of the week, e-mail us your response to these questions along with pictures of your tattoos to whitney@afropunk.com

Who are you?

Alex Scott

25 years young

Zip

San Francisco

Occupation

Lifeguard

How many tattoos do you have?

8

Which one is your favorite?

They are all my favorite! but they one I pay most attention to right now is the most recent one. “Readymade”

When and where did you get it?

March or this year in SF. It’s under my left boobie

What does it mean to you?

It was an ending and beginning point marker. I got dumped by someone I was in love w/. Readymade was a nickname they gave me and the day I saw my ex with someone else I went into the shop, told the tattoo artist what happened. I did because even though we didn’t work out I was still in a place way better than where I was before he came along. He told me that all he wanted to do was leave me in a better condition than he found me in. And in the greater scope of my life, he really did, I never wanted to forget that and I never wanted my love for him to evanesce, because it made me so happy. Kinda makes me sound like a living room I guess, but that is the shortest explanation I can give.

How old were you when you got your first tattoo?

16

Why should we feature your tattoo?

Because it is a beautiful depiction of a word that is not in any dictionary.

Do you have a particular tattoo artist you go to?

Taler Nichols @ Let It Bleed in San Francisco, CA

Have you ever received a tattoo under the influence of drugs or alcohol?

If I have, I do not remember.

Do you regret any tattoos you have?

Not really, but I would fix the stars on my ankle and touch up the two on my forearms.

Are you a tattoo addict?

If I had enough money to be one, hell yeah I would!
