afropunk premiere: ‘sell out’, the new single from british folk singer songwriter de’borah – “being determined to stay true to yourself no matter what life brings”
Today we’re premiering the new single from British folk singer-songwriter De’Borah, ‘Sell Out’ – a London based musician (inspired by the likes of Stevie Wonder and Joni Mitchell) who began creating music from a very young age. Her camp say: “At just 11 years old De’Borah began writing and singing her own songs, before she was given a guitar at the age of 13. Fast-forward to her college days, at 16 years old De’Borah was already playing live shows, thinking nothing of the almost vertical learning curve. Now she plays live shows all across London, and recently performed in New York, Bulgaria and Germany.” The new track features on the singer’s forthcoming ‘Chambers On A Sleeve’ EP (out this month), co-produced by De’Borah and Jesse Hackett (Stones Throw Records, Gorillaz). De’Borah tells us: “A lot of times we can react to people or situations, instead of responding to them from the strength of who we are. ‘Sell Out’ is about being determined to stay true to yourself no matter what life brings – particularly when it comes to relationships. The EP is quite raw for me personally, there’s a lot of grit and passion but also a surety about it all which I’m quite proud of. The vision is to connect with people – to give them the courage to address what’s going on in their heart whilst embracing whatever process they’re in.” Listen below.
