Black Power Naps is an ongoing installation and curatorial initiative that reclaimed laziness and idleness as powerful tools. A brilliant and complexion subversion of the deliberate fragmentation of restorative sleep enslaved people and their descendants through Reconstruction, Jim Crow and today. Black Power Naps aims to break the mutating reappearance of constant fatigue black people are subjected to, the “sleep gap”, black and Afro-Latinx people experience while trying to survive in white capitalistic society. Whew! “As Afro Latinx artists, we believe that reparation must come from the institution under many shapes, one of them being the redistribution of rest, relaxation, and down times. In this spirit, we have also united forces with Pride Madrid 2018 to curate a festival line up that whereartistsare invited to perform from bed.”

BLACK POWER NAPS FESTIVAL – JULY 7TH & 8TH
