AGI + AFROPUNK ARMY + EARN A TICKET!

One of the best things about AFROPUNK Brooklyn is its community-driven initiatives. Activism Row is an interactive site-specific educational installation featuring grassroots non-profits that attempt to solve urgent community problems. Activism Row’s goal is to inform youth about civic participation opportunities. This year the area is presented in partnership with AHF – AIDS Healthcare Foundation and participating organizations include Color of Change, Birthright Africa, Headcount, BCS – Brooklyn Community Services, and many more.

Long known as an advocate of cultural change, AFROPUNK will continue to keep affordable- and earned-ticket programs active, even as the brand expands from its Brooklyn roots into the global arena. AFROPUNK ARMY, the earned-ticket, social-justice advocacy program, gives fans the opportunity to volunteer for admittance. AFROPUNK works closely with partners like Chip’N, an app that connects people to socially impactful volunteering projects in their communities, that allows fans to complete service in exchange for a ticket to the festival. (A minimum of five hours of volunteer work earns one single-day GA ticket). The volunteer program creates awareness for organizations in need, provides access to an engaged pool of valuable resources and helps deliver sustainable impact to communities. Projects include packing supplies for NYC homeless (prep, serving), donation drives and a unique digital advocacy program with Color of Change, the nation’s largest online racial justice organization helping people to respond effectively to injustice in the world around us. As a national online force driven by over one million members, they move decision-makers in corporations and government to create a more human and less hostile world for Black people in America. We’re Talking SOLUTIONS!

Proud to announce that we debuted our first ever podcast with HowStuffWorks called AFROPUNK SOLUTION SESSIONS. Veteran social activist, Bridget Todd, and writer Yves Jeffcoat  take on the topics of race, gender, equality and various forms of social justice in ways that will make you look twice. It is a podcast built on the presentations and discussions that take place at SOLUTION SESSIONS forums at AFROPUNK Festivals across the globe, with the idea of taking on real-world problems with actionable solutions.

After the Festival… There is AFTER DARK

Come sundown, AFROPUNK creeps into the streets, bars, and restaurants of BROOKLYN . Laugh at a comedy show, dance in a nightclub, enjoy a pop-up performance, a film screening, an art installation, and enjoy drink specials at AFROPUNK AFTER DARK.  The park might close, but the party keeps going.

Stay tuned for AFTER DARK announcements with some VERY special guests.

SKATERS, Meet Us at Golconda Skatepark!

The 2018 AFROPUNK best trick jam will take place at the newly christened 18,000 square foot Golconda skatepark in Brooklyn.  AFROPUNK will be partnering with local brands who have chosen certain sections of the skatepark to have best trick “jams.” This format will allow for a more inclusive contest run by the skaters for the skaters. Steve Rodriguez, the founder of 5boro Skateboards who also designed the park will be organizing and MCing the event to make sure each section gets the most shine. The sections will be the “Bank to Wall”, the “grass gap” and the “hubbas and straight rail”. Contestants will compete for cash and prizes.

Want to Join the AFROPIUNK Brooklyn 2018? Check Out AFROPUNK Battle of the Bands Competition

AFROPUNK’s Battle of the Bands is the first and best expression of mentorship, support and encouragement in our creative community. Yes, it is a competition in which new artists play for the chance to perform at AFROPUNK events and on its festival stages. But it’s more than that. It’s an opportunity to show the people what you got, to be recognized by your audience and by your peers, since they’re the ones picking the winners. Some victors sign record-label deals and become famous for a while, others play a couple of big shows and fade away. Yet, this Battle of the Bands moment, is the opportunity for a bigger platform. Do what you are going to do – but whatever you do, the AFROPUNK community is there for you.

Sign up HERE to register your interest. Competition commences soon.
