As one might imagine, racial discrimination isn’t limited to the United States. Now the UK is dealing with black customers in similarly racist ways. Which is what appears to have happened a few days ago at London’s The Ivy Chelsea Garden when UK singer Rage and her friends were stopped from entering the restaurant. In the video of the exchange with a manager or hostess that Raye posted to Instagram, Raye points out that a white friend (wearing an oversized sweatshirt) was allowed in while her black male friend (dressed in a puffer jacket and khakis) was turned away. The Ivy Chelsea Garden is a casual, but nice dining spot, but their dress code was not previously listed on their website. Making it hard to tell if this dress code is heavily enforced when it’s not a black person waiting to be served. But watch the video and make up your own mind:

As the video has gained more attention, The Ivy Chelsea Garden has responded to the allegations of racial discrimination with this non-apology, calling the whole incident a “mistake”. Yeah, I’ll say. They’re not sorry for the discrimination, they say it’s about the way they mishandled their dress code policy.
