Having more Black representatives is a start, but we need to watch them closely

In the wake of last week’s epic win for Democrats in Pennsylvania and around the country, it’s important to recognize that the hard work is far from over. In fact, now is just the beginning of holding a new crop of local politicians accountable. Black or otherwise. That’s right, the big local wins for Black, Brown, and queer officials definitely marks a stride towards progress and representational inclusions, but it’s just as important to hold Black officials to their campaign pledges, call them out for conceding to the Democratic establishment by upholding white supremacist systems like mass incarceration, big Pharma, Wall Street, etc.
