Sorry not sorry for Trump voters now losing their Meals on Wheels, healthcare, etc.
March 20, 2017
People voted for Trump for a lot of reasons. Maybe it was in desperation to reclaim that super dangerous coal mining job that disappeared a decade ago, or the desire to “shake up Washington”. Whatever delusional or self-destructive bullshit those folks told themselves, it’s pretty clear—considering the rhetoric—that Trump voters are either flat out racist or completely apathetic to racism. Not only did Trump supports chant, cheer, and ultimately reward, the most racist statements and proposed policies by this man, they denied and defended the harm and abuse they were waging against their non-white and immigrant neighbors, friends, and colleges. They willingly and enthusiastically aligned themselves with a climate and community that’s not only violently in language, but violent in policy. So, now, with Trump’s plans to majorly defund or eliminate altogether the programs that working-class rural whites (who voted overwhelmingly for Trump) depend on and benefit from, like Meals on Wheels, Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) and the Economic Development Administration (EDA), and more generally, the proposed cuts at the departments that help keep our country inhabitable, like the EPA, it’s seems fair, although mean, to let these folks reap what they sow. Hopefully they have sturdy bootstraps.
